Aid to Flood Victims
Thousands of families were affected by the floods in the southern and east
coast states of Peninsular Malaysia which occurred in December 2006 and then
again in January 2007. The state of Johor was the most badly affected area
in the country. Many organizations in the country had provided aid to the
flood victims. The Association in an effort to lessen the burden of the
families affected by this disaster has approved financial aid amounting to
RM50,000 to be donated to some 50 low income families affected by the floods.
Industry-wide statistics compiled by PIAM, indicate that the sum insured exposures to the insurance industry was as much as RM96 billion. However, the actual intimations of claims amount to RM180 million and claims paid up to end-March 2007 amount to RM51 million.
Media Education Workshop on Medical and Health Insurance
PIAM organized a media education workshop for representatives from the media
on 20th June 2006 on the topic of Medical and Health Insurance. MHI experts
from the insurance industry were invited to share information on medical and
health insurance issues with the media. It is hoped that, equipped with this
additional knowledge and insights, media reporters and journalists will be
able to report more extensively and accurately on this class of business and
thereby help convey the positive aspects of MHI to the public.

Donations to Charity Homes
The Association hosted and jointly organized the Insurance Industry Annual
Dinner 2006 with other industry associations i.e. LIAM, MTA,MITBA and AMLA.
The proceeds from the annual dinner were donated to two deserving charitable
organizations i.e. the Rumah Hope Education Fund and the Budimas Charitable
Foundation on 22nd March 2007.
