Liaison At International Levels

Liaison Meetings with General Insurance Associations of Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand
The Management Committee of PIAM maintains close rapport with its counterparts in the region and has annual liaison meetings with the Management Committee Members of the General Insurance Associations of Indonesia (Assosiasi Asuransi Umum Indonesia (AAUI)); General Insurance Association of Singapore (GIAS) and General Insurance Association of Thailand (GIAT).

These annual meetings are hosted alternately between PIAM and the other associations. This year PIAM hosted the liaison meeting with AAUI and GIAS in Kota Kinabalu and Kuching respectively. The General Insurance Association of Thailand hosted the meeting with the PIAM Management Committee in Bangkok.

In addition to exchange of information on developments in the respective markets, the meeting also fosters mutual understanding and encourages co-operation to address issues that affect our respective markets. For example, one of the key areas being considered currently with Singapore is a joint understanding on the best way to address the issues on limitation of liability.

PIAM/GIAT Liaison Meeting, 2006

23rd East Asian Insurance Congress - 30th July to 2nd August, 2006, Brunei Darussalam
The 23rd East Asian Insurance Congress (EAIC) was held from 30th July to 2nd August, 2006 in Brunei Darussalam and hosted by the General Insurance Association of Brunei Darussalam. The theme for the Conference was “East Asian Insurance at the Crossroads of Growth and Profitability”. The Conference provides a platform for insurers in the region to discuss and address critical issues facing the life and non-life insurance industries in the region. A total of 109 delegates from Malaysia attended this Conference.

32nd ASEAN Insurance Council Meeting - 14th to 18th November 2006
The 32nd ASEAN Insurance Council (AIC) meeting was held in Bali, Indonesia from 14th to 18th November 2006. The Malaysian insurance industry is represented by PIAM and LIAM on the AIC.

The 32nd AIC meeting was held simultaneously with the ASEAN Insurance Regulators meeting. Various Committees handling projects under the auspices of the AIC affecting member countries also met during this meeting to discuss updates on these projects and follow-up actions needed. The Committees that met during this meeting were the ASEAN Council of Bureaux (Blue Card System), ASEAN Insurance Training and Research Exchange Institute (AITRI), ASEAN Reinsurance Exchange Scheme and the ASEAN Insurance Education Committee.
