Signing Ceremony of the Best Practices Framework

- Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program for General Insurance Agents
In order to raise the standard of competency and professionalism of agents, all registered general insurance agents are required to complete 20 CPD hours annually.

The status of achievement of the CPD Program is reviewed regularly by the Association's Agency Board and Education Sub-committee to ensure that the program is sustainable and the training will commensurate with the knowledge and skills requirements of general insurance agents.

The Education Sub-committee reviewed the effectiveness of the CPD program and considered measures to overcome the problems and issues faced by member companies in its implementation. From a survey, it was reported that there was significant improvement in the knowledge and skills of the agents who had undergone the CPD training and it was apparent that the CPD program had been a success. Members were also encouraged to use e-learning and web-based learning for the CPD program to be more efficient.

- Upgrading of Online Agency Registration System (OARS)
The OARS which allows online registrations of agents was first launched in June 2005 and is currently running on Windows 2000 Server operating system (OS).

The Association has decided to upgrade the OARS application on a new platform so as to ensure that future stability and compatibility issues are addressed. The new OARS application would also incorporate a new CPD module and rectify some weaknesses which have been identified in the current OARS. The new OARS application is targeted to be completed in the second quarter of 2008.
