MEDICAL AND HEALTH (MHI) INSURANCE
Joint Technical Committee (JTC) of PIAM, LIAM,
NIAM and MTA on Medical and Health Insurance
The position of the Chairman of JTC is
rotated among the four Associations every
two years. Ms. Christine Teh Chooi Hoon of
Berjaya Sompo Insurance Bhd was appointed
the Chairman of the MHI Joint Technical
Committee (JTC) effective 1st
January 2007 representing PIAM.
The objective of the JTC is to review the
current practices on MHI and wherever
possible, to harmonize the practices between
life and general insurance companies and
takaful operators.
The JTC is currently working on a standard
discharge medical report form for the
industry to facilitate the issuance of such
form by doctors as general and life insurers
are using two different sets of forms
currently.
Networking on “Medical Expenses Insurance” for
Claims Managers
A networking event on medical expenses
insurance for claims managers was organised
by the Joint Technical Committee on
27th June 2007 with a view to
share information and claims experience.
Four experienced industry practitioners of
medical insurance claims participated in the
panel discussion.
ICD Coding Training for the Industry
A 2-day training session on ICD 10 (Diagnosis
Coding) and ICD 9 CM (Procedure Coding) was
organised by the Joint Technical Committee to
provide information and guidance to practitioners
on the coding procedures and techniques.
The training was conducted by consultants
from the Unit Case Mix of Hospital
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. A total of
51 participants attended the training
session in 2 groups with the first session
held on 9th and 10th
July 2007 and the second session on 18th and
19th July 2007.
