PUBLIC RELATIONS
Insurance Day, 2007
PIAM organized a road safety campaign
targeted at primary school children to
commemorate Insurance Day 2007.
The emphasis of this two-month campaign was
in teaching school children to be "good
citizens on the road" through a series of
creative comic strips and a poster campaign.
The comic strips and posters featured a
mascot known as "Wira Jalan Raya (Wira J)"
which was specially designed by well-known
cartoonist Reggie Lee to attract the
attention of children and to reinforce the
important message of adhering to simple road
safety rules.
This campaign had two components; the first
was a poster campaign with the distribution
of posters to schools promoting the
importance of wearing helmets, bike safety
and the correct road crossing procedures
assisted by the Road Safety Department. The
second component was a four-part comic strip
by Reggie Lee, which was published in the
educational pullout of two major newspapers.
The comic strips contained the same messages
in a more attractive manner for children. To
roll out the second component of the comic
strips, the Association organized a
colouring contest to promote the road safety
messages to the young. Fifty children aged
below 9 years old participated in this
colouring contest organised in conjunction
with the New Straits Times. The campaign
complemented the Government’s initiatives to
promote good road safety habits amongst the
young.
Media Education Workshop on Insurance for SMEs
The Association organized an education
workshop for members of the media on 29
August 2007 in Kuala Lumpur. This year's
workshop focused on sharing with the media
representatives the importance of insurance
to small and medium-sized businesses and how
these business owners can protect their
exposures and ensure business continuity
through the products and services provided
by insurance companies. The objective of
these workshops is to educate the media to
enable them to report accurately and help
convey the positive aspects of insurance to
the general public.
