What is a Mediator?

  • being impartial and independent, solely responsible for the decision he/she makes.
  • acts as a counsellor, conciliator, adjudicator or arbitrator in cases where policyholders who are not satisfied with the member companies in respect of their claims.
  • procedure of complaint is simple - a letter addressed to him at the address below stated:-

    Financial Mediation Bureau
    Level 25, Jalan 4
    Jalan Sultan Sulaiman
    50000 Kuala Lumpur

  • decision is based on a practical approach rather than on rigid application of laws
  • a complainant may accept or reject the mediator's decisions.
  • mediator can make awards up to:
    - RM 200,000 (Motor & Fire insurance)
    - RM 100,000 (Others)
    - RM 5,000 (3rd party property damage)

  • complainant is free to reject an award and exercise his legal right to pursue legal proceeding.
